DO's
1. Prime your skin. It is so important you create a smooth, moisturised base for your makeup to sit on.
Priming your skin also creates a barrier between the foundation and your pores, preventing your pores from getting clogged with makeup which triggers breakouts.A primer also helps keep on your makeup for a longer period throughout the day or night. In the Summer weather I would recommend a silicone based primer, the silicone prevents the humidity in the air effecting your makeup.
2. Highlight. I constantly get asked what products I use to highlight. I love using liquid highlighters as they leave a gorgeous natural dewy glow on the skin. My fave liquid highlighter would be without a doubt, Benefit's 'Highbeam'. Powder highlighters are also great too if you like a more intense glow. I love MAC's 'Soft and Gentle' and Sleek's 'Face Form' palette.
3. Contour. Contouring can change our whole face if applied correctly. I usually use a cream contouring palette by 'Coastal Scents' although I am hoping to purchase the 'Anastasia Beverley Hill's' palette very soon. I apply to the temples, cheekbones, jawline and sides of nose and blend with a fluffy blending brush. I then set it all with a matte bronzer by Sleek called the 'Face Form' palette. I LOVE THIS! Pick it up at your local Boots store, so inexpensive!
4. Conceal. So many women make the mistake in just applying foundation all over and never concealing blemishes, redness or dark circles. This is a huge NO NO. Concealing in so important in achieving a flawless face. I love a green concealer to even out redness around my nose, chin and cheek area. Also applying concealer in a 'V' shape under the eye and up to side of temple area creates a mini eye lift and can instantly brighten up your whole face.
5. Translucent powder. I never leave the house without my powder, as I have combination skin I find my t-zone gets oily quite quick. For any skin type I would recommend a good compact translucent powder that you can carry in your hand bag to top up and control that shininess when ever, where ever you are.
DONT'S
1. Overdo mascara. I'm all about my dramatic eyes but there is a time and a place. Lashing on 10 coats of mascara for work is going to look a tad bit OTT, plus save it for a special night out and you'll feel amazing as you wont be use to seeing your lashes as big.
2. Cake on blush. First of all pick a soft subtle colour that suits your skin and hair colour. I am very pale naturally so I would use a soft peachy/rose colour. Secondly use a good quality blush brush. Your products will only be as good as the tools you use to apply them with.
3. Over pluck brows. Leave your eyebrows alone! Apart from the odd stray hair do not pluck your brows inbetween your brow appointments. I am a qualified beauty therapist so I would have a good idea on how to shape brows but if your not certain, leave them be and go make an appointment! My fave place in Cork City is 'iBrow', they do fantastic brow treatments.
4. Get carried away with glitters/shines and shimmers. A little extra shine or glitter
can spice up an evening look, but during the day it's just distracting, and not very flattering in the daylight. I love to stick to mainly matte lipsticks, bronzers and eyeshadows. I am matte obsessed!
5. Skip lipstick. Adding a little pop of colour to the lips in the morning can do wonders for a tired, washed out complexion. I love my pastel pink matte lipstick by MAC called Snob. I carry it with me everywhere, I wear that during daytime, at work etc but at night I love my nudes 'myth' or 'creme cup' both by MAC are two favourites of mine and of course if I'm opting for the 'vampy' look I love 'Diva' or 'Rebel'
Remember the key to a flawless face is to have good skin underneath. Drinking lots of water, taking vitamins and fish oils can help with your skin alot. Wearing an SPF on skin and lips is also a must, avoiding the sun when you can but also getting enough so you are not lacking in vitamin D. I also love weekly face masks and scrubs to keep my skin looking fresh and healthy which benefits my skin and my makeup in the long run.
Hope this helped girls :-) Have a fab weekend.
